  • It Takes a Community – Evening Program at Ft. Frederica
    6:00 pm-9:00 pm
    11-18-2017

Saturday, November 18th from 6:00-9:00 pm

Fort Frederica, 6515 Frederica Road Saint Simons Island, GA, presents – It Takes a Community, an evening program to include a candlelight walking tour of Frederica Town, a tabby making demonstration, lighting of the limerick, and a nighttime cannon firing. Admission is free.

In his journal, A Voyage to Georgia, Frederica colonist Frances Moore wrote “Mr. Horton, Mr. Tanner, and the men were all brisk, and in good health. Mr. Oglethorpe immediately set all hands to work, mark’d out a Booth to hold the Stores, digging in the ground three foot deep…”

It took a community of hard-working individuals to build colonial-era Frederica from the ground up. Making tabby was a laborious process and protecting the coastline and Northern colonies from eventual Spanish attack was a job for the soldiers.  Frederica Town was home to many tradesmen, women and children who left England to get a second-chance at life. Some succeeded, some did not.  In the end, they helped shape our country’s history.

For more information on this program, please call (912) 638-3639 ex. 107.
